Who We Are
If you were to ask me “Pastor Danny, how would you sum up the heartbeat, the pulse, the very heart and soul of FCC, what would that be?”
I would answer: Tetelestai! It. Is. Finished.
Tetelestai is the last thing Jesus cried out on the cross before he died! He proclaimed to all beings: human, angelic & demonic, that the work necessary to save and redeem fallen, broken, sinful mankind is finished; accomplished; done! The wrath of God against sin is satisfied. Now the pardon of sin is a sure reality. A massive reality!
Out of tetelestai flows God’s full, free & forever forgiveness of sins, with no strings attached and no fine print, that is rooted in the death of Jesus Christ, on the cross, in your place and for your sins! Full stop. Period.
Here at FCC we are a rag-tag band of misfit sinners who have been shown that through the death & resurrection of Jesus, we are loved, accepted & forgiven by God, once and for all. Now God Call’s us saints! No more striving, no more tireless treadmill of attempts to set the record straight, no more reliance on our performance to earn God’s favor, but a resting in the performance of Jesus on our behalf, secure in the obedience of Jesus for us, and rejoicing in the work of Jesus that is finished.
The Christian life is about Jesus, not me, not you. Here at FCC all of us matter, but none of us is the point. Jesus is! We now live the Christian life in the power and the beauty of His conquering love! We live out of tetelestai‘s potent impact, not by trying to help Jesus finish the work by our vain, failing attempts to keep God’s law, but by resting in His finished work. This is the true motivation for living the Christian life.
As my friend Chad Bird reminds us:
“The absolution is absolute.
Forgiveness is final.
God doesn’t keep score.
It really is finished.”
His “tetelestai“, His finished work to save a wretch like me, like you - as the song ‘Amazing Grace ‘ goes - is our God-given heartbeat, pulse and laser focus here at FCC.
First Church of Christ, Bradford exists to be…
Rooted in The Bible: First Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, and holds as truth the doctrine of the Trinity: God as Father and Creator, Jesus as the Son and Savior, and the Holy Spirit as Guide and Comforter. It further acknowledges as kindred in Christ all who share this confession. It adheres to the Word of God in Scriptures and in the direction of the Holy Spirit to prosper its redemptive mission in the world.
Connected to the Past: It claims as its own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers.
Relevant in the Present: It accepts the responsibility to make this faith its own in the reality of worship and in the expression of its mission and ministry locally and into the world. In accordance with the teachings of Jesus, it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. Its very existence is to serve God by providing all people an opportunity for Christian worship, education, fellowship, pastoral care and mission within the spirit of Christian love.
Hopeful for the Future: As we continue to live by faith in the precious promises of God's Grace that are in Christ, we trust that the Lord will guide us a we move forward and bless our future, as He has our 300+ years past! Soli Deo Gloria! All Glory and Honor to our God, through His Son, Jesus Christ.
